What do you most value about Congregationalism?

Congregationalism varies around the world so we want to know what make it special for you.  Please tell us the order in which you would put these.  Use just the letter at the start of each aspect.  At the end please give your church name and location (solely to validate a genuine response).

a.  Being mutually accountable to one another within the local church.

b.  Every member is equally valued regardless of age, gender, social standing, etc.

c.  The ability of the local church to assume responsibility for its own life, ministry and mission.

d.  Being a “covenanted fellowship”.

e.  Being non-hierarchical and with non-priestly ministers.

f.  All-member ministry (Priesthood of believers).

    G. Being mutually accountable, not just within the church but between the churches, especially as that is lived out in regional associations.

Sunday, June 27,2010 12:05 midnight! -- d;b;e;a;f;c;g Comment:It may be redundant but when I first attended a Congregational church I was so taken with the idea of being responsible myself for my commitment to Christ that I became a member, knowing right away that it is the place for me and I have remained a Congregationalist in spite of suffering through one really bad minister and a couple others that were not so good! (There have been really good ministers, also!and we have one now.)

On the selection - actually my first two are indeed important for me - but I may have picked some of the others differently tomorrow --

I cannot put the categories in any order as they are all important aspects of the Congregational Tradition
but what is important to me is that we are able to be flexable and can move quickly when the Holy Spirit prompts us to move - we don't need to seek permission from any higher authority - God speaks and we are able to easily obey

g: Ser congregacional é conhecer bem a própria história e saber motivar-se com ela, pois sobre esta denominação o sol nunca se pôs.

South Africa Congregationalists Condemn Strikes
The United Congregational Church of Southern Africa has called on Christians across Johannesburg to reach out to the poor and sick in the wake of public sector strikes that have shut down hospitals across the city.

Church leaders say the strikes – which are set to last for two weeks – are causing havoc, with nurses refusing to work and schools and hospitals in disarray.

Adding New Languages

The ICF News Sheet is now available in Spanish thanks to former members of the Congregational Church in Herstmonceux, England.  It is hoped that the Latin America page of this website will go bi-lingual shortly, with news from the Region included.

We have hopes for translations of the News Sheet into Greek, Arabic and Korean before the end of the year!
